Christian Character Formation

In order to fulfill the aim and purpose of Koinonia Academy, we have identified eight character qualities that we believe reflect the character of Jesus Christ, and which will help our students develop solid Christian character. These character qualities are the foundation for our courses that are given at every grade level, and are called "Christian Character Formation" (CCF). Following is a brief description of each quality, together with an appropriate Scriptural quote:

Peace

Proverbs 1:33

A Koinonia student is free from disturbance, with an inner calm and quiet.
"But he who obeys Me dwells in security, in peace, without fear of harm."

Diligence

Proverbs 10:4

A Koinonia student is industrious, hard-working and steady in effort, in order to accomplish.
"The slack hand impoverishes, but the hand of the diligent enriches."

Joy

Proverbs 15:30

A Koinonia student is happy, with a sense of well-being and inner gladness.
"A cheerful glance brings joy to the head; good news invigorates the bones."

Cooperation

Philippians 2:2

A Koinonia student is willing to work in unity with others (classmates and faculty) for a common goal, and follows directions.
"Complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing."

Honesty

Proverbs 11:3

A Koinonia student exhibits truthfulness and honesty in his dealings with others.
"The honesty of the upright guides them; the faithless are ruined by their duplicity."

Respect

Exodus 20:12,15

A Koinonia student shows honor and respect in actions toward teachers, other adults. and fellow students. He respects school property and the property of others.
"Honor your father and your mother ----."
"You shall not steal."

Participation

Psalm 90:16,17

A Koinonia student participates in the life of the school – its spiritual life (charismatic prayer, demonstrates usual signs of prayer; open to spontaneous praise, raising hands, active, not passive), and its academic life (classroom participation).
"Show your deeds to your servants, your glory to their children. May the favor of the Lord our God be ours. Prosper the work of our hands."

Good Example

I Corinthians 11:1

A Koinonia student projects and promotes a positive example to fellow students and obedience to all staff and to all school agreements.
"Be imitators of me as I am of Christ."

Every student agrees to strive to acquire these character traits during his or her time at Koinonia Academy. While results are not always the ideal, the quality of Koinonia’s graduates attests to the success of the program. Many of our young men and women have gone on to outstanding records in college and in the world of business and the arts.

"It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness."
