The Koinonia Academy Concert Tour

The central aim at Koinonia Academy is to develop true disciples of Jesus Christ with strong Christian character. Throughout the school year, Christian Character Formation classes (CCF) and Christian Character Workshops (CCW) provide on-going instruction and training in character development and discipleship. Many other activities and programs reinforce and enhance the groundwork established in CCF/CCW. One of the most important activities that challenges students to put what they have learned into real practice is the annual Koinonia Academy Concert Tour, known simply as the "Tour".

All high school students are members of the Concert Choir; each student participates in the Tour. While the Tour is an opportunity for the choir to sing at various locations throughout the US, and even occasionally in other countries (e.g. Canada and Poland), it goes well beyond giving concerts. In reality, students are challenged to share their faith with other teenagers, to proclaim Jesus as Lord to total strangers. At the end of each concert, they provide spiritual ministry, praying with any audience members seeking prayer. In some locations, in spite of their normal reluctance to do so, they actually do some "door-to-door" evangelizing.

Besides the work of ministry to others, the "sand paper ministry" they experience traveling together challenges the students to really love one another along with their hosts and chaperones, in the midst of long rides, long hours, and sometimes tight living quarters. They often have to put aside or do without some of the comforts and conveniences they’re accustomed to, as they live as guests in host houses, retreat centers, convents, or other temporary living quarters. But as they rise to these challenges, they experience a strengthening of their character; they begin to see the practical results of their CCF/CCW training.

Over the years, the Tour has proven to be a source of both renewal and growth in those aspects of life that are most essential – love of God, and love of neighbor. The Tour and its results have helped to make Koinonia Academy a compelling witness of God’s love, mercy, and provision for those who honor Him.
