The 2nd Annual Grand Gala Banquet has been rescheduled due to Hurricane Sandy. The updated date is January 9th, at the same time and location as previously scheduled.

On Wednesday, January 9th, Koinonia Academy will be celebrating past and recent successes, as well as God’s plan for the future at Koinonia Academy’s 2nd Annual Grand Gala Banquet.

Our 2012 Honorees include Fr. Mariusz Koch, CFR, Paul Giegerich, and Joy Gallic Touhill (’95).

This year’s Book-a-Thon was a great success! The 55 students who participated read 1,008 books in all, and earned a grand total of $5,657.00 for Koinonia academy though sponsorship and donations (an average of about $102.85 per student!) The final Tally Rally was held on Friday May 11^th, and the students received prizes and encouragement for their hard work! We are so grateful to all of the teachers, parents, and sponsors who encouraged the students to read and participate in this fundraiser!

Some recent and future good happenings at Koinonia Academy:

The Junior Girls are hosting a Country Line Dance on Saturday night, May 5, in the Weyand Gym as a fundraiser for their annual trip.

The Koinonia Academy Concert Choir has completed the annual evangelistic tour.  This year the choir has been away from school, but returned to our local area for concerts.  We shared the blessings of the tour with local audiences and helped our enrollment and fundraising efforts in the local area.  The choir sang at Our Lady of the Mount in Warren, St. Mary’s-Stony Hill in Watchung, St. Mary’s in Plainfield, St. Joseph’s in North Plainfield, Our Lady of Fatima in Piscataway, and St. Vincent de Paul in Stirling.  The choir also visited senior citizen residences in Philipsburg and Hackettstown (where we had a surprise choral clinic from Professor Jeannette Hile, former choir director at Seton Hall University).  We sang and shared with school audiences at Holy Innocents’ School in Philadelphia and Mother Teresa Regional School in Atlantic Highlands.  While in Philadelphia, the choir attended Mass at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul and ran up the steps of the Phildelphia Art Museum (made famous by Rocky Balboa).  We also visited St. Pio’s in Lavallette for Sunday Mass on the rainiest and coldest day of the spring.  Msgr. Triano, the pastor, invited our students to return for a beach day, barbecue and concert; we’ll try to take him up on his generous offer in the fall.  Thank you for all your prayers and help with this year’s tour; special thanks to all who helped feed our hungry singers.

We had an open house on Tuesday, May 1.  The open house lasted from 9-11:30 AM and gave prospective families a chance to visit the school, see classes in action and hear a brief mini-concert by the Koinonia Academy Concert Choir.

Just before Easter, Mrs. Fierro’s sixth grade had a Seder meal as part of the class preparation for the Easter Season.  Mrs. Sonia Masterson came to the class to explain the Jewish celebration of Seder and how Christians now celebrate it.

The Class of 2012 will have several days on class activities during the week of May 14.  The Senior Dinner will be on Thursday, May 17, at the Berkeley Plaza in Berkeley Heights.  The Graduation Mass and Ceremony will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Stirling on Friday evening, May 18.
